Projects are suggested, approved, and planned by the participating churches and community partners of GOJax. Project locations vary throughout the city. When you register for GOJax, you choose which project you want to serve with. Outdoor, indoor, and family friendly, and opportunities are available!
2026 Project Descriptions
The Preschool in San Marco Playground Playhouse Construction
- The Preschool in San Marco has been providing a safe, loving, and engaging environment for children for over 70 years. Volunteers on this project will build and paint a wooden church playhouse and provide some TLC to other tot-sized playhouse replicas of shops in San Marco Square. DIY skills helpful but not necessary. Outdoor / Family Friendly / Activity Level MODERATE
Angelwood Thrift Store
- Angelwood has provided services to children, adults, and families living with disabilities for over 30 years. There are 5 group homes in the Jacksonville area in addition to an Adult Development Training facility. Angelwood launched a thrift store to generate income, lessening reliance on government and charitable support, while also offering vocational opportunities to some of its clients. Most of the tasks associated with the Thrift Store are performed by volunteers. Volunteer opportunities include sorting donation, stocking merchandise, and organizing the store. There are tasks for individuals with limited mobility as well. Join our volunteer team and make a positive impact while helping to keep the thrift store running smoothly. Apartment Outreach: Harold House
- Harold House apartment complex 3650 Ring Lane 32207. Our plan is to have hot dogs, gospel music, several care partners with tables offering community services. Outdoor/Activity Level MODERATE
Apartment Outreach: Royal Estates
- This block party event will feature community resources, free food, music, children’s activities, and a gospel presentation. Volunteers will help set up, run, and breakdown the event at 8050 Arlington Expressway. Outdoor / Activity Level MODERATE–HIGH
Apartment Outreach: The Towers of Jacksonville
- Volunteers will assist residents of Towers of Jacksonville with small-moderate DIY jobs (changing lightbulbs, mattress flipping, picture hanging, etc.) Indoor / Physical Activity Level LOW-MODERATE
Aspire Arlington Campus Cleanup
- Weeding, bush/tree trimming, edging, etc. Family friendly. Outdoors. Bring your own yard tools. Activity Level MODERATE-HIGH Outdoor / Activity Level MODERATE–HIGH
Evangelism/Prayer Walking
- Walking in teams to do some neighborhood door knocking, praying for people and hanging invitational door hangers that informs about the local church (participating in GOJax). Outdoor / Activity Level MODERATE
First Coast Women’s Services Campus Cleanup
- Volunteers will help with basic interior cleaning (sweep, mop, bathrooms, etc.) Exterior work needed includes pressure washing building exterior, sidewalks, parking lots, gutter cleaning and basic landscaping. THERE ARE 2 LOCATIONS FOR THIS PROJECT: MANDARIN AND KERNAN. Indoor-Outdoor/Adult/Teen friendly. Activity Level MODERATE-HIGH
Holiday Hill ESL Ministry
- We will visit our ESL students and deliver gift baskets to encourage them and their families. Volunteers needed to help assemble baskets and make visits.
Media Team
- Do you have an eye for visual storytelling? This team will divide and conquer to visit every project site to capture photos & videos for a celebration photo & video montage in the coming weeks! Indoor-Outdoor / Activity Level LOW-MODERATE
One More Child Compassion Center
- Help One More Child in moving and setting up resources in their brand new Compassion Center! This includes moving/organizing clothing, food, and other donations. One More Child’s Compassion Center provides nourishing meals to children, clothing to children in foster care, single moms, and more. Your help is needed to equip the Center to meet specific needs for the families in our Jacksonville community. Indoor / Family-Friendly / Activity Level LOW-MODERATE / Limited Mobility Access
Prayer & Care Team with Better Together
- This team will remain at San Jose Baptist Church after the rally to pray for the projects, volunteers, and project recipients, as well as pack items for our Hope Packs. These backpacks—containing essentials and comfort items like bibs, books, crayons, blankets, toiletries, stuffed animals, pacifiers, and a handwritten, heartfelt message—help children as they begin their stay with our volunteer host families while their parents work to get back on a path to flourishing. Rally Team
- Volunteers will help setup refreshments, greet, and check-in volunteers at the GOJax morning rally at San Jose Baptist Church. Indoor / Limited Mobility Accessible / Activity Level LOW-MODERATE
San Marco Community Center Refresh
- Repainting the walls of the gym for community sports engagement such as school teams, pickleball, open gym, disc golf, and more. Family friendly / Indoors / Activity Level MODERATE-HIGH
Shred Event
- Thrivent’s financial professionals provide personalized financial guidance to people at all stages of life. This free shred event in the San Marco Community Center parking lot allows members of the community to watch up to 10 banker’s boxes of their documents to be shredded for free with a donation of canned goods to Ruth’s Place. Time is 8-11am. Volunteers for this drive-thru event will help direct people in the SMCC parking lot. Outdoor/Activity Level LOW-MODERATE
Job Fair with Better Together (on Oct 15)
- This isn’t just another job fair—it’s a culture of celebration. We’ve intentionally designed this event to uplift and empower everyone who walks through the door—job seekers, employers, and you, our volunteers. Your involvement will help create an atmosphere of hope, encouragement, and positive change Volunteers needed for registration, hospitality, job coaching, and more! 9:30AM-3:30PM at the San Marco Community Center.
